Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about window replacement, entry doors, patio doors, and installation in Ottawa.

Pricing & Process

How much do new windows cost in Ottawa?
Standard vinyl windows start from $600 per window installed, with most styles running $800–$1,300+ once glass package and configuration are factored in, custom shapes, triple-pane, and premium options run higher. A full-home project (around 10 windows) typically starts around $8,000, with most Ottawa homes between $10,000–$18,000 depending on scope. Bay and bow windows require a structural assessment for pricing. Exact pricing is provided during your free in-home consultation.
How much does entry door replacement cost in Ottawa?
Entry door replacement in Ottawa typically costs $1,500–$4,500+ depending on door size, panel material (steel vs fiberglass), glass selection, and hardware. Exact pricing at your free consultation.
How much does patio door replacement cost in Ottawa?
Patio door replacement in Ottawa typically costs $1,800–$5,500+ depending on size, configuration (2-panel vs multi-panel), and glass package. Stacking door systems are quoted based on opening size and panel count.
Is the in-home consultation really free?
Yes, completely. We visit your home, measure every opening, explain your options, and leave you with a written quote. There is no obligation to proceed and no pressure to decide on the day.
How quickly can you provide a quote after the consultation?
We aim to have your written quote to you within 24 hours of the in-home visit. We respond to initial enquiries within 48 hours to book the consultation.
Do you offer financing for window or door replacement?
Ottawa homeowners can access the Better Homes Ottawa Loan Program, up to $125,000 at 4.33% fixed interest over 20 years for qualifying energy upgrades. The loan is tied to the property rather than the borrower, so it transfers to the next owner if you sell. We also accept cheque, e-transfer, and credit card.

Products & Performance

What brand of windows and doors do you install?
We install Stage Windows & Doors, a Canadian manufacturer whose products are NAFS-22 certified, Energy Star certified, and independently tested for performance in Canadian climate conditions.
Are your windows Energy Star certified?
Yes. Every Stage window we install meets or exceeds Energy Star certification requirements. According to Natural Resources Canada, replacing windows with Energy Star certified products saves Ottawa homeowners an average of 45% on energy costs.
What is NAFS-22 and why does it matter?
NAFS-22 (North American Fenestration Standard 2022) is Canada's current performance standard for windows and doors, independently testing structural integrity, air infiltration resistance, and water penetration resistance. Stage Windows are tested against this standard and exceed it. Very few manufacturers can make this claim.
Should I choose double-pane or triple-pane windows?
Double-pane (Low-E coating + argon gas) handles Ottawa winters effectively for most homes and is our standard package. Triple-pane adds approximately 15-25% to cost but cuts heat loss through glass by up to 40%, worth it for older homes, large window areas, or long-term ownership plans. We'll recommend the right option at your consultation.
What window styles are available?
We offer casement, awning, single and double sliders, fixed/picture, double hung, hopper, bay, and bow configurations. Curved and linear custom shapes are also available. Casement is our recommended style for Ottawa primary living spaces due to its compression seal performance in extreme cold.
What entry door panel options are available?
Stage Prima entry doors are available in fiberglass wood-grain (Mahogany, Oak, Fir textures), fiberglass smooth, and steel. All slabs sit in a 100% wood-free composite frame system. Over a dozen paint colours and multiple stain finishes are available.
Do you offer smart locks on entry doors?
Yes. Stage Prima entry doors are factory-prepped for Tedee smart lock integration, including keyless entry, remote access, auto-lock, and smartphone control. Ask about this upgrade during your free consultation.

Installation

What is full-frame installation?
Full-frame (brick-to-brick) installation removes your entire existing window, including the frame, casing, and exterior brickmould, right to the raw stud opening. We replace the old insulation with fresh expanding foam before installing the new window unit. This permanently eliminates drafts and addresses any moisture damage in the existing frame. We only offer full-frame because Ottawa's climate exposes retrofit shortcuts quickly.
Why don't you offer retrofit installation?
Retrofit installation leaves the original frame and insulation in place, which is faster and cheaper upfront, but it doesn't address the degraded insulation that causes perimeter drafts. Ottawa's -30°C winters reveal this problem within a season. Full-frame is the only method we trust enough to back with our 1-Year Installation Guarantee.
How long does window installation take?
Most whole-home window projects (8-12 windows) take one full day. We install one opening at a time. Your home is never left exposed. Larger homes or complex configurations like bay windows may need two days.
How long does entry door installation take?
Most single entry door installations take 4-6 hours. A door with sidelites or a full frame replacement takes a full day.
Will my house be cold during installation?
No. We never leave an opening exposed, the new unit goes in before the next one comes out. In cold weather, we use temporary insulation on any opening not immediately ready for the new window.
How messy is window installation?
Full-frame installation removes the frame from the exterior, so interior disturbance is minimal. Drop cloths on all floors, furniture moved where needed, full cleanup before we leave.
Do I need a permit for window or door replacement in Ottawa?
Standard window and door replacements in the same size opening do not require a permit in Ottawa. Bay and bow windows that structurally modify the exterior wall may require one. We advise on permit requirements during your consultation and guide you through the process if one is needed.

Warranty

What is your installation guarantee?
Every installation comes with our 1-Year Installation Guarantee. If there is a problem caused by how we installed your windows or doors, including air infiltration through the perimeter, water ingress, or improper sealing, we fix it at no cost within 1 year of installation.
What product warranty comes with Stage windows?
Stage windows carry a lifetime warranty on vinyl frames (against cracking, warping, blistering, peeling), 20 years on insulating glass (against seal failure and fogging), and 15 years on hardware. All fully transferable to the next owner at no charge.
What warranty comes with Stage entry doors?
Stage entry doors carry: limited lifetime warranty on white vinyl frames, 10 years on steel panels, 5 years on fiberglass panels with multipoint lock, 15 years on light-colour factory paint, 10 years on dark-colour paint and decorative glass, and 10 years on hardware.
What warranty comes with Stage patio doors?
Stage patio doors carry: 25 years on vinyl frame and sash components, 10 years on insulating glass, 2 years on hardware, 5 years on workmanship, and 10 years on exterior paint.
Does the warranty transfer when I sell my home?
Yes. Stage window warranties are fully transferable to the next owner at no charge, provided the warranty was registered within 15 days of installation. The transferred warranty covers the unexpired remaining period, adding documented, warranty-backed value to your property.
